Sophat grew up in Lowell, MA and found his love for technology and design in his early teens, learning to use Photoshop and creating numerous websites while in high school. He pursued this love at Hampshire College, a small liberal arts school in idlyic western Massachusetts. While at Hampshire, Sophat focused on art and architecture and continued his studies at nearby UMass-Amherst where he recently received his M.Arch. During his time in western Massachusetts, Sophat also held the position of Assistant in Architecture at Smith College for four years, where he served as studio critic and taught design studios.
Although he was born in Thailand, Sophat's parents are originally from Cambodia but fled the country during the Khmer Rouge era. He knows very little about these two countries but hopes to visit and study in Southeast Asia sometime in the near future. He is particularly interested in the effects of modernization on the local culture and architectural vernacular.
